Helen Stewart
Born in Calhoun County, South Carolina to sharecropper parents, Stewart paints about rural life. Stewart was accepted both in military and into an art institute. But since her parents did not permit her to go, she went to work in a factory. Stewart is a self-taught artist who began painting in 2005. She possesses a very unique style of folk-art rarely seen in artists now or then. There is a certain perfection and great attention to detail in every scene. Ms. Stewart captures and freezes a particular point in time that you will remember long after you’ve viewed the painting. She paints her memories.
